Our research is steered through three focal topics and reflects the findings on a set of tools.

 

OUR FOCAL TOPICS
To better understand the nature of competitiveness in the modern context, we currently focus on three topics: Cluster, Competitiveness Governance, and Innovation Strategy. These topics play a key role in the changing world, influencing the new waive of competitiveness theory and practice.
The expertise of the Institute’s personnel also matches these topics of focus, making the research experience even more vivid. The enthusiasm and interest of our team has fueled the delivery of academic work.

Cluster

Cluster is one of the most prevalent topics in the modern competitiveness discussion. The cluster approach has been employed worldwide to enhance competitiveness at various levels: industry and sub-national as well as national and regional. Challenges and opportunities in forming, organizing, monitoring, and promoting all kinds of clusters are addressed, especially in the context of the Netherlands and Europe.

Competitiveness Governance

Competitiveness Governance refers to a macro approach in development strategy of a region or country. The governance requires integrative aggregation of diverse competitiveness theories in a particular context. It not only is implemented through top-down policies but also derives from bottom-up initiatives of practitioners.

Innovation Strategy is at the heart of any knowledge-based economy around the world. Through innovation, at any level, a company, an industry or economy could sharpen its competitiveness and acquire a leading position. Questions are on how to stimulate and nurture natural innovation, how to develop strategy in this field, and how to incorporate it with other development strategies.
